international women’s strike + a day without a woman

Wednesday, March 8, marks the International Women’s Strike, which coincides with a Day Without A Woman. These events emphasize the intersectionality of race, gender, and class, and the complex ways in which inequality and injustice are woven through our social, cultural, political, and economic structures and systems.

There are a number of ways to participate. Many of our teachers will be wearing red, and we invite students to practice in red. Participants are also encouraged to refrain from spending money unless your purchase supports minority- and/or women-owned businesses. Last but not least, participants may choose to strike from paid or unpaid work altogether, though it is understood that having the option to strike is a privilege, and many, many people are without this option. We at the Shala support any show of solidarity you are willing and able to make.
