Dear Shala Community,
Happy Black History Month! We hope this letter finds you well.

The Shala’s Racial Justice Initiative is an evolving process. We offer BIPOC classes with Shevy and Sasha every first and third Sunday of the month; our fundraising efforts for these classes as well as BIPOC training scholarships is ongoing. If your friends, relatives, colleagues, and other community members who identify as BIPOC are interested in joining in on BIPOC classes, please feel encouraged to share this information widely!
We are super excited about resuming our 200- and 300-hour Teacher Trainings in March 2021—and about kicking off our very first Buddhist Studies program, which begins in March with a focus on Buddhist History, taught by Constance Kassor, Assistant Professor of Religious Studies at Lawrence University.
Our beloved Sharon Salzberg will return for another meditation, Q&A, and discussion event. Please keep your eyes and ears out for more information!
Last but not least, our focus of the month will be karuna (compassion), one of the four brahmaviharas, also known as the four immeasurables, the four infinite minds, or the four heavenly abodes.
Love,
Barbara + Kristin
