Dear all,
This month we’ll focus on jnana and twists. As we approach the spring equinox, we are reminded of the ubiquity and constancy of change, and the role of jnana (wisdom or knowledge) in the process of navigating the many twists and turns of life. Wisdom guides us into questions like, who am I? What am I doing in this life? Where am I caught in delusion, and what is the true reality?
We are living in a time of far more questions than answers. The world feels ungrounded, and fear abounds. Steady practice, taking refuge in community, and the cultivation of wisdom all support our efforts to be with fear without creating unnecessary struggle and strife.
Apropos of current events, we know there is growing concern about how COVID-19 could potentially impact everyday life for New Yorkers. Your health and safety are priorities for us. We are committed to keeping the studios clean, and are replacing cloth towels with paper towels, disinfecting doorknobs and other surfaces, and regularly spraying and fully washing mats. Please feel free to bring your own mat if that would make you feel more comfortable, and please remember to inform the teacher if you would prefer not to receive hands-on assists.
Here are some other precautions we can all take:
- Stay home if you detect any cold or flu symptoms. Please do not attend class if you are feeling unwell.
- Care for your immune system! Maintain your asana and pranayama practices, get more rest, spend time outdoors, eat nutrient-dense foods, and take your vitamins and herbs.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water (for at least 20-30 seconds), and/or use a 60% alcohol-based hand sanitizer before and after eating, using the bathroom, coughing, sneezing, or participating in any activity in a public space (including taking class at the studio).
- Cover your mouth/nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze (avoid using your bare hands or your clothing) and avoid touching your face.
