About:

2 hours south of Lisbon, the Alentejo Coast is known for its quiet beaches, verdant hills, and Rota Vicentina, a sprawling 200-mile network of walking paths. Our retreat will be held at Herdade da Matinha, a rural hotel in Alentejo nestled in one of the most beautiful, peaceful regions of Portugal.

Local Food:

You can order lunch and dinner at the hotel or visit local fishing towns to eat. Orange trees are everywhere on the property and the orange juice is out of this world. Delicious Alentejo bread from the local bakery, which still operates in the old traditional open fire ovens, is also a daily treat.

Getting There:

Airfare not includedbook flights to Lisbon, Portugal (LIS-Humberto Delgado). A Non-Refundable Deposit of $500 holds your space. 

We suggest you spend 2 to 3 nights in Lisbon or traveling to explore the city and acclimate to the time change. Rent a car (we can coordinate groups to share a car) at the airport and drive 2 hours south to Alentejo. We strongly suggest you to book a car in advance. You can rent a car at the airport (rentalcars.com).

Free Iyengar Class with Deidra Demens

Hi, my name is Deidra. I am a Certified Iyengar Yoga teacher. I am certified at the Intro I/ II Level. I am preparing to go up for assessment for the next level of the Iyengar certification, which is Junior Intermediate 1. This level adds many poses from the Astanga Intermediate Series to my teaching syllabus.

Here is where you can help me, help you. Part of my certification process is showing videos of my classes, to my teachers, to receive their feedback. I am teaching a free class at The Shala Union Square Thursday, November 15th from 1:30pm- 3pm. I am looking for open level students to come and take class. This would be a great opportunity if you are interested in learning more about full arm balance (handstand), forearm stand, parsva dhanurasana, bhekasana, ardha matsyendrasana, and balancing in headstand in the middle of the room.

Poses will be introduced using demonstration, clear instruction, and detailed alignment. This class will benefit students that are new to the intermediate poses, and students that want to go deeper into their intermediate practice. The class will be recorded. I will not post the video online. I will only show the video to my teachers. Students will not be judged on their practice, or understanding of the asanas. My teachers are only observing the class to critique my effectiveness as a teacher.

Join Bibi Lorenzetti and Walker Adams for an evening of yoga and live music to benefit the Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS). SAMS is a global medical relief organization that is working on the front lines of crisis relief in Syria, in neighboring countries, and beyond to save lives and alleviate suffering. SAMS proudly provides medical care and treatment to every patient in need.

About the class: Open to all levels, this vinyasa class will be accompanied by melodic beats by Walker Adams. We will begin with a slow warm up, move into Sun Salutations and standing postures, transition into seated postures, arm balances (with variations for beginners), and end with backbends, inversions, and restorative postures. We will close out the evening with a sound meditation and a short talk and Q+A with a leading SAMS volunteer.
