Dear Shala Community,
After 20 years of owning and operating our beautiful studio in Union Square, we have decided to close our doors at 816 Broadway. After several attempts to negotiate with our landlord, in the end we couldn’t agree on an affordable way to keep the space while there is still so much uncertainty for brick-and-mortar yoga studios.
We are feeling sad and hopeful. This is not goodbye to teaching in Manhattan, just a pause while we figure out our next steps. Once studios are permitted to reopen, we will find ways to teach classes in Manhattan in a collective format with other yoga schools. We are happy to report that we plan on reopening our Fort Greene studio whenever it is safe to do so, and will continue to offer virtual classes via livestream and on-demand.
Transferring our studio online has shown us just how strong and resilient our community really is. Whether we are together in a physical space or on Zoom, we can still connect fully to one another, our practice, and the teachings. Thank you to our amazing staff, teachers, and students. In this year of years, we are so grateful to you all for showing up and for sharing all your brilliance, creativity, and resilience with us.
We know this is a lot to take in, and we encourage you to let us know if you need our support in any way. We are here for you.
Love,
Barbara + Kristin
